How to recover your Green Dot account
Green Dot accounts are email-anchored. Ninety-nine percent of "help I lost my account" cases are actually "help I lost access to my mailbox" cases. This guide walks through the recovery path for both.
Case A — you still have access to your mailbox
Simplest case. Go to /account-recovery, enter the email registered on your Green Dot account, wait for the recovery link (up to thirty seconds), click it. Your workspace reopens exactly as you left it: your streak counter, your solved-boards history, your friends list, your subscription, all intact. The recovery link expires after thirty minutes for security. As a side-effect, every browser previously signed in to your Green Dot account is signed out — you will have to sign in again on your phone or on your work laptop the next time you use them.
Case B — you also lost access to the mailbox
The recovery link cannot reach you. Do not open a new Green Dot account with a different email — that new account will have its own zero streak, its own zero badges, its own zero friends. Instead, contact support@greendotplay.org from whichever email you can access, and provide the following evidence of ownership:
- The approximate date you first signed up (month is enough).
- The subscription tier of your account (Free / Standard / Pro / Team / Club / Yearly / Founder).
- If you have a paid subscription: the last four digits of the card on file or the invoice reference of any receipt sent to the old mailbox.
- The screen name displayed in your Green Dot cabinet, if you can recall it.
- The approximate number of solved boards in your account, plus any friends screen names you can list.
Our support team cross-references this evidence with the account records and, if satisfied, migrates the account to the new email address within two working days. This is a manual process, done by a real person, in Podgorica, working hours 09:00–17:00 CET Monday to Friday.
Case C — you forgot the email you signed up with
If you remember any billing detail (card last-four, invoice number, or receipt date), send them to support and we can help you identify the account. If you do not remember any billing detail and the account was Free-tier, we may not be able to help — Free accounts leave no verifiable ownership trail beyond the email itself.
Case D — your account is scheduled for deletion
If you clicked "Delete my account" within the last fourteen days, the confirmation email you received contains a one-click restore link. Use that link and the deletion is cancelled. After day fifteen, the account is gone permanently — start fresh at /login with a new email.
Case E — you cannot sign in because 2FA emails do not arrive
Two-factor codes are sent to the same email as your Green Dot magic link. If they do not arrive, apply the same troubleshooting as for magic links (check Promotions, check Junk, allowlist account@greendotplay.org). If it is a chronic issue with your mailbox, you can turn 2FA off from the confirmation email of the last successful sign-in, or from support.
